Foxkeh

Mozilla Japan created Foxkeh on September 1, 2006 as a promotional character for Firefox in Japan, designed by Piro, a Firefox add-on author better known for Tree Style Tab. The name came from a public contest with roughly seven thousand entries and was announced on September 19: fokkusu, the Japanese for fox, plus suke, the friendly old-fashioned ending on a boy's name. What made him unusual was the output. Mozilla Japan ran a monthly wallpaper program from 2007 to January 2011, plus buttons, icons, banners and seasonal art, released under a Creative Commons license so fans could actually use it. There were plushies, documented publicly from sketch to factory including an internal roasting of the first prototype for having a face like a castella cake, and exactly one giant Foxkeh, built for the Mozilla 24 event. Mozilla Japan was always clear that he promoted Firefox rather than officially representing it, and the site now sits online as a frozen 2006 to 2011 mirror.
