Huggy

Hugging Face started as a chatbot app named after the emoji, and when it pivoted into hosting machine learning models, datasets and Spaces, the emoji came along and quietly became the brand. Rather than commission original character art, the team built a costume closet around it, informally calling the character Huggy. It appears as a viking with a braided beard, a cowboy, a chef, a robot with a chest panel that opens onto a heart, and a Transformers agent in binary code shades, all the same yellow circle with the same open hands. The interesting part for anyone weighing a mascot: this cost nothing to license, was instantly recognisable on day one, and the investment went entirely into variations rather than into the original design. A free universal emoji is now the face of the infrastructure an entire industry ships models on.
