The Headspace characters
Headspace used simple animated characters from its early meditation explainers to make abstract mental states feel approachable. The system expanded into hundreds of figures, in-app teaching, social animation, campaigns, and Netflix programs. Its refreshed guidelines formalized the logic around a hero smile, flexible shapes, sprites, a limited face library, and rules that protect the Orange Dot from becoming a generic prop-holding mascot. The Headspace character universe was developed by Headspace in collaboration with Nexus Studios, with the visual language and character work shaped by creatives including Matt Oxborrow and Bee Grandinetti. Earlier Headspace visuals were created by illustrator Cristina Guitian under the art direction of Zoltan Csaki.
