Patch
Founder Guy Podjarny wanted a guard dog, and a friendly one. Snyk's own account is that the breed was incidental: it was not really about a Doberman but about a classic guard dog, and the Doberman ears just made a simple, recognisable mark. The purple comes from the security idea of a purple team, sitting between red team attackers and blue team defenders. The name took years to stick, because Podjarny resisted it: he worried it would not represent the company well, being, well, patchy. He gave in after a year or two. The mark has been tightened four times rather than redesigned, and v1 was, in his words, way too goofy, drawing comparisons to a robber and to Batman. No individual designer has ever been publicly credited with it.
