Ziggy

Zig was announced in 2016 and got its mascot in December 2019, when Luke Holder committed a spiky orange iguana called Ziggy the Ziguana to the project's logo repository. Andrew Kelley relicensed the mascots from CC BY-SA to plain CC BY in 2021 so anyone could use them freely, and the README carries an unusual instruction: mascots are not gendered, adapt them however you like. Ziggy picked up a supporting cast, Zero the Ziguana in a space suit and Carmen the Allocgator, drawn by community member Xeonracer in 2024, plus an illustration set that runs through the release notes: Ziggy with pizza, Ziggy in sunglasses, Ziggy asleep under a blanket while the changelog goes long. There is no official merch, so the community makes its own, including a 3D model and an STL people print at home.
