Lucy

created by
mascot for Gleam↗

Lucy is the mascot of Gleam, a statically typed functional language that compiles to Erlang's BEAM and to JavaScript. She has a full bio the project commits to on its own site: glows underwater, favourite ice cream is strawberry, owns a seahorse plushie. What makes her worth studying is the branding page, which ships roughly thirty official Lucy variants as downloadable SVGs. She morphs into Ferris for Rust, the droplet for Elixir, the snowflake for Nix, a yellow square for JavaScript, and a dashed outline to mean null. There are sleep and debug-failure expressions, a spiky Super Lucy, and a complete run of pride flags. Most small projects draw a mascot once and paste it around. Gleam built a kit, gave it away, and let the community carry the language into rooms it does not own. For an ecosystem competing for attention against far bigger ones, being the memorable pink one is a strategy, and being the pink one that can wear your logo is a better one.
